GOOD LOCAL TRADE AT CHAROLAIS SPRING SALE IN ENNIS 18/03/2014
An additional spring sale saw Charolais bulls average €2,883 with two bulls leading the trade at €3,600 each.


First €3,600 went to Aidan Farrell, Boyanna, Moate, Co. Westmeath for Williamstown Hercules, a son of Doonally New and out of a Prime Roberto dam.  He has the top 5 star rating in the Terminal Index and also 5 stars for Carcase Weight and Carcase Conformation.  With a muscle score of 122 he is also in the top 5% of the breed for muscle.    He was purchased by Sean Hayes, Lisduff, Tulla, Co. Clare.


The second €3,600 went to Martin Ryan, Cabra, Thurles, Co. Tipperary for Goldstar Handsome by Goldstar Echo and out of a great show cow Goldstar Dolce by Major. Another bull with the top 5 star rating in the Terminal Index and also 5 stars for Carcase Weight and Carcase Conformation, he sold to John Guerin, Ballymarkham, Quin, Co. Clare.


A good day’s outing for Martin Ryan; he sold his second bull for €3,100 to John Hayes, Mount Hazeryn, Toomaline, Doon, Co. Limerick.   Goldstar Humphrey is also by Goldstar Echo and out of an Erudit bred dam.  With 4 ½ stars in the Terminal Index and 5 stars in the Replacement Index he also has the top 5 star rating for Carcase Weight  and Docility and 4 ½ stars for Carcase Conformation.


Martin sold his third bull of the day Goldstar Ideal for €2,250 to Sean McMahon, Mount Scott, Doonogan, Mullagh, Co. Clare.   He is by “Repair” and out of a Maerdy Sinndar bred dam.


€3,000 was received by Mattie Kelly, Cloughbrack, Newbridge, Ballinasloe for Cloughbrack Hero by Pirate and out of a Lyonsdemesne Tzar bred dam.  With a 4 ½ star Terminal Index and 4 star Replacement Index he was purchased by Pat O’Connor, Kiltackey, Tubber, Co. Clare.


€2,900 was received by local breeder Michael Greene, Dromore, Feakle, Co. Clare for Feakle Hunk, a son of Pirate out of an Enfield Plexus bred dam.  He was purchased by Padraic Ryan Cloonlee, Tynagh, Loughrea, Co. Galway.


Once again Pirate and Doonally New proved to be popular sires.  Price range was from €2,000 to €3,600.


Next Charolais Sale is the Premier which takes place this coming Saturday 22nd March in Carrick-on-Shannon with 84 bulls and 23 heifers on offer.    Held under cover, judging is timed to commence at 10.00 a.m. with the sale at 12.30 p.m.  To ensure a high standard all animals catalogued have been pre-inspected and all bulls are semen fertility tested.  The Society’s bull fertility insurance scheme is also in operation at this sale and all animals are export tested.  Catalogues can be downloaded through the SALES option and by clicking on ‘Catalogues’ on www.charolais.ie
