The final Charolais spring sale took place in Tullamore and once again prices held well for the better lots, achieving an average of €2,804 and a clearance of 65%


Top price of €4,600 was paid for the Senior Male Champion KILBLINE INDIGO (ET).  Bred by Noel Sugrue, Bennettsbridge, Co. Kilkenny.  By Oscar and out of a home bred dam by Hermes.  He has the top 5 star rating for carcase weight and a 4.5 star rating for carcase conformation.  He was purchased by Edward McHugh, Barnaderg, Tuam, Co. Galway.


€3,850 was received by Patrick Hillary, Whitepark, Ballinasloe, Co. Galway for 3rd prize winner WHITEPARK IARLA by Cloverfield Excellent and out of a home bred dam by Doonally New.  He was purchased by Maurice Walsh, Ballydangan, Co. Roscommon.  He had a top 5 star rating for carcase weight and conformation.


€3,200 was paid by Liam Maguire, Carratrasna, Derrylin, Co. Fermanagh for NEWTOWN IVAN.  Bred by Joseph Casserly, Cashel, Newtowncashel, Co. Longford, he is by Enfield Hara Kiri and out of a home bred dam by Pirate.   He has a 5 star rating for Daughters milk.


€3,050 was paid for second prize winner DRUMCROW IVAN.  Bred by David Abbott, Drumcrow, Killeshandra, Co. Cavan.  He is by Roughan Callum and out of a home bred dam by Burradon Talisman.  He was purchased by Declan Clavin, Tubrid, Oldcastle, Co. Meath.  He also had the top 5 star rating for carcase weight, conformation  and daughters milk.


Three lots shared the €3,000 price tag –


The first €3,000 went to the Seamus McCann, Bettystown, Co. Meath for Reserve Senior Champion, TOPNOTCH HORATIO.  He is by Grove Victor and out of a home bred dam by Excellent.  He has a 5 star rating for carcase weight.  He was purchased by Christy Conroy, Ballinahemmy, Clonaslee, Co. Laois


The second €3,000 was paid for REDGATE INDIGO.  Bred by Eugene Egan, Deerpark, Ballyfin, Co. Laois he was purchased by Stephen Morrison, Hartwell, Kill, Co. Kildare.  By Blelack Digger and out of a dam by Doonally New.  He had a 5 star rating for Carcase Weight and Daughters Milk and a 4 star rating for Carcase Conformation.


The final €3,000 was received by Basil Bothwell, Dereskit, Killeshandra, Co. Cavan for DERESKIT ISAAC.  He is by Roughan Callum and has a 5 star rating for Carcass Weight and a 4.5 star rating for Carcase Conformation and a 4 star rating for Daughters Milk.  He was purchased by Raymond Gee, Tinweir, Durrow, Co. Laois.


Junior championship went to Kiltananlae Indigo bred by Noel Galvin, Lackenavea, Birdhill, Co. Tipperary.   He is by Balthazar and out of a Major bred dam.


Reserve junior rosette went to Mattie Kelly, Cloughbrack, Newbridge, Ballinasloe, Co. Galway for Cloughbrack Impeccable by Dromiskin Viceroy and out of a home bred dam by Enfield Newlook.


Unfortunately neither the junior champion nor reserve was sold.


Price range was from €2,000 to €4,600 with two bulls being exported to Northern Ireland.
