A 100% CLEARANCE
Raphoe Mart was packed to the rafters on Saturday last (27th Sept.) for the dispersal sale of the Deeleview Charolais Herd on behalf of Ian Maxwell, Convoy, Co. Donegal.  A huge crowd travelled from far and wide to attend the auction of this long established herd.  Hitting the headlines at €9,000 was the tremendous DEELEVIEW GI JANE et selling with her Blelack Digger bull calf at foot.  She is a Texan-Gie daughter out of Deeleview April who was one of the most successful cows within the herd.  Finding this outfit too tempting to miss was Gilbert Crawford, Maghera who purchsed her for his noted Coolnaslee herd.  Gilbert also brought home DEELEVIEW BEAUTE and her very smart Elgin Davinci sired heifer calrf.   This pair grossed €7,700.


The sale kicked off with the in calf cows which topped at €6,000 paid by Andy McGovern, Co. Leitrim.   This was for DEELEVIEW DONNA who is sired by Meillard.  Later in the sale the much admired April 2014 born daughter by Inverlochy Ferdie realised €3,400.  She was purchased by John McGrath, Drumconnis, Omagh.


There were just two cows and alf outfits sold together at the sale.   The seocn dof these was DEELEVIEW GOOD GIRL out of Fury Action.   She sold at €5,000 to Andy McGovern accompanied by her Hideal sired bull calf at foot.


Maidens topped at €4,000, paid for DEELEVIEW HIGHLIGHT a daughter of Crossmolina Euro.  She sold to Richard and Selina Beattie, Omagh.   One of the last lots to come under the hammer was DEELEVIEW JOANNE a February 2014 daughter of Hideal.   She ws snapped up at €3,100 by Philip McCrory, Dungannon.


Auctioneer Tom Cox was kept busy in the rostrum with a 100% clearance readily achieved.   Northern Irish buyers were out in force with 51 of the 100 lots crossing the border to new homes.

Sale topper at €5,800 was 14 months old GLEN IVAN 2ND bred by John Jennings, Cultifada, Williamstown, Co. Galway.  Reserve champion on the day he is by Thrunton BonJovi (AI code S750) and out of Doon Grace by “Bova Sylvain”.  He was purchased by A & D McAfee, 36 Isle Road, Bushmills, Co. Antrim.


Selling at €5,100 was first prize winner BALLINVALLEY IRWIN bred by Michael Kavanagh, Ballinvalley, Oldcastle, Co. Meath.   He is by “Pirate” (PTE) and out of a home bred dam by “Doonally New”.   He has the top five star rating in the Terminal Index and 4½ stars in the Maternal Index.   In addition he is only 6.8% for calving.  He was purchased by Sean O’Mahony, Kilmeely, Millstreet, Co Cork.


Next at €4,700 was second prize winner OGHAMSTONE IMPECCAABLE bred by Thomas Finnegan, Ballybeg, Ballyhaunis, Co. Mayo.  By “Pirate” he is out of a “Doonally New” bred dam.  He has the top five star rating in the Terminal Index and 4 stars in the Maternal Index.   In addition he is only 7.9% for calving.  He was purchased by Liam Naddy, Kilmacshane, Inistioge, Co. Kilkenny.


A bid of €4,500 secured the Champion, RIVERSIDE INDIANA 2ND for Billy Glazebrook, Crewburn Farm, Strathaven, Lanarkshire, Scotland.  Bred by Edwin Jones, Riverside, Kenagh, Co. Longford he is by Enfield Plexus (PXU) and out of “Grangwood Butterfly” by “Oldstone Egbert.”


€3,950 was received by Jarleth Treacy, Claretuam, Tuam, Co. Galway  from Tom Hynes, Lissylisheen, Kilfenora, Co. Clare for 14 months old CLAREGAL IVOR.  By “Liscally Eti” he is out of a home bred dam by “Pirate”.


A bid of €3,800 secured first prize winner BALLYM INSTABRAC for Mary Bannon, Castlejordan, Tullamore, Co. Offaly.     Bred by Louise Quinn, Ballymoran House, Edenderry, Co. Offaly he is by the stock bull “Ballym Bouvreuil” and out of a home bred dam by “Pirate”.


Aidan Farrell, Boyanna, Moate, Co. Westmeath sold 3 of his four bulls for a total of €10,000.     All three sold are by “Doonally New”.


Top price €3,700 was received by Aidan for WILLIAMSTOWN ICE.   He is out of a grand-daughter of Indurain and was purchased by Timothy Meagher, Clonan, Roscrea, Co. Tipperary,


Next at €3,300 was WILLIAMSTOWN INKERMAN.   Out of a “Padirac” bred dam he was purchased by Anthony Smyth, Kilglass, Ahascaragh, Ballinasloe, Co Galway.


His third bull WILLIAMSTOWN INGAR sold for €3,000.  Out of a dam line going back to ”Shamrock Ambassadeur” and “Enfield Hara Kiri” he was purchased by Frank Farrell, Grangebeg, Raharney, Co. Westmeath. Aidan withdrew his fourth bull at €4,200 as he is entered for the Christmas cracker sale on 6th December.


€3,650 was paid by Denis Murray, Dublin Road, Moate, Co. Westmeath for CLAREGAL ISSAC ET, the second sale offering of the day from Jarleth Treacy, Claretuam, Tuam, Co. Galway.  Just 14 months of age he is by “Grimaldi” and out of a home bred dam by “Padirac”.


€3,600 secured first prize winner ROUGHAN IMPAIR for Hugh McCambridge, Carnlough, Co. Antrim.   Bred by Pat McClean, Roughan, Newtowncunningham, Co. Donegal he is by the stock bull “Roughan Echo” and out of a home bred dam by “Roughan Bonheur”.


A bid of €3,500 secured the “Pirate” bred bull SCREGG ICE for Brendan Quinn, Carrowkilleen, Kinvara, Co. Galway.   Bred by Michael Brehony, Scregg, Knockcroghery, Co. Roscommon he is out of a “Doonally New” bred dam.


Two lots sold at €3,300


First €3,300 was received by William Scanlon, Fermoyle, Carrowbiskey, Westport for FERMOYLE ICIK.   By “Pirate” and out of a home bred dam by “Doonally New” he was purchased by Joseph Dempsey, The Leap, Roscrea, Co. Tipperary.


Next €3,300 was paid for CLEWBAY INDY by Sean Grennan, Ballycumber Road, Ferbane, Co. Offaly.  Bred by Charles Hughes, Lankhill, Westport, Co. Mayo he is by “Fleetwood” and out of a home bred dam by “Pirate”.


 The next Charolais Society show and sale of the Autumn is scheduled for Saturday, 22nd November in Ennis (with 52 bulls on offer) and the final show and sale of 2014 will be the Christmas Cracker in Elphin, Co. Roscommon on Saturday 6th December.
