Autumn sales off to a great start 20/10/2014
Charolais females topped €3,400, closely followed by another at €3,350 at the unhaltered female sale in Elphin on Saturday last (18th October).


Top price of the sale €3,400 went to Michael & Mary Quin, Clenagh, Newmarket on Fergus, Co. Clare for their in calf heifer CLENAGH GYPSY.  In calf to Roundhill Doc and with 4 ½ stars in the Replacement Index she is by Texan Gie and out of a home bred dam by Pirate.   She was purchased by Brendan Pendred, Curraghboy, Ballynacargy, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath.


Close behind was €3,350 received by Thomas Hanly, Bridge St., Strokestown, Co. Roscommon for his coming two year old heifer KILDALLOGUE HEIDI.   By the easy calving buy Pirate she is out of a home bred dam by Excellent.   With 4 ½ stars in both the Replacement and Terminal indexes she was purchased by Gerry Lynott, Corbestown, Killucan, Co. Westmeath.


Two lots were sold at €3,000 each.


First up was CREEVE HARRIET bred by local breeder, Jackie Caslin, Kyle, Elphin.   She is by Cottage Devon and out of a home bred dam by Doonally New (CF52).   She was purchased by Terry Bradley, Ballydrown, Moate, Co. Westmeath.


Next at €3,000 was WINDMILL ISOBELLE by Inverlochy Ferdie and out of a home bred dam by Doonally New.  Bred by Michael Nerney, Chapel St., Elphin she has 3½ stars in the Replacement Index.  Purchaser was Gerry McGovern, Kilmore, Fivemilebourne, Co. Leitrim.


Gerry also purchased a second heifer Windmill Imelda from Michael Nerney.   Just 13 months of age she is by Gerard (AI code GRF) and out of a home bred dam by Indurain. She sold for €2,200.


Happy breeder was David Erskine, Crosses, Monaghan who sold all three of his young heifers for a total of €7,600.    He received €2,800 for FIELDVIEW HONEY by Corrie Alan (CZL) and out of a Lyonsdemesne Tzar bred dam.  Purchaser was Declan McGoldrick, Knockminna, Ballymote, Co. Sligo.   His other two heifers were purchased by Tim Cleary, Gortnahone, Thurles, Co. Tipperary for €4,800.  FIELDVIEW HYACINTH is by Pirate and out of a home bred dam by Eddercloon Brutus and FEILDVIEW HANNAH is by Dartonhall Dougal (son of Corrie Alan) and out of a home bred dam by Jupiter.


Co. Clare Breeder,  Peter McNamara, Ballymakea, Mullagh, received €2,400 for his maiden heifer BALLYMAKEA HENRIETTA.  By Lyonsdemesne Tzar she is out of a home bred dam by Doonally New.   Purchaser is Denis Moroney, Ballyglass, Scarriff, Co. Clare.


Three heifers were exported to Northern Ireland.
