FINAL SPRING SALE 21/05/2016

CHAROLAIS HIT €5,150 AND ACHIEVE A VERY GOOD AVERAGE OF €3,193

With only six bulls unsold and a very good average of €3,193 the Charolais Society Spring show/sale season finished in good order at last Saturday’s sale in Tullamore. Charolais weanlings in the marts have been trading very well and it was evident in the very big crowd at the sale.   Prices started at €2,000 and topped €5,150 for the highly fancied reserve champion Grangwood Limerick.  Bred by Jerry O’Keeffe, Woodlawn, Grange, Knocklong, Co. Limerick and just fourteen months of age he is by Pirate and out of a home bred dam by Lyonsdemesne Tzar.   With the top 5 star ratings in both indexes he was purchased by Barry McDonnell, Moydow, Co. Longford.   Championship sash went to Garret Behan, Ballyfin, Portlaoise, Co. Laois, for Cloonagh Jumbo Jet et by Inverlochy Ferdie and out of Goldstar Beatrix by Oscar.   With 5 stars in the terminal index and 3 in the replacement he sold for €3,500 to Oliver Broderick, Clashmore, Co. Waterford.

€4,700 was received by Kevin Molloy, Dolland House, Clonsilla, Co. Dublin for Dolland Liam by Cavelands Fenian out of a Nelson home bred dam.   Another bull with 5 stars in both indexes he was purchased by Michael Healy, Tawnytaskin, Boyle, Co. Roscommon.

The €4,600 price tag was reached twice:

First went to Alan Wood, Cloonamaine Hse, Crossmolina, Co. Mayo for his 15 months old Crossmolina Luei.   By Crossmolina Euro (CSQ) standing in AI and bred in Alan, herd he is out of a Bova Sylvain daughter.   Purchaser is Patrick Brennan, Ardrahan, Co. Galway.

Next to receive €4,600 was John Farrell, Boyanna, Moate, Co. Westmeath for a Pirate son out of a Doonally New bred dam.  With 5 stars in the Terminal index and four in the replacement he was purchased by J.M. Wright, Derryharney, Lisbellaw, Co. Fermanagh.

Close behind at €4,500 was Western Loretto 2nd , the youngest bull at the sale.   Bred by Joe Clancy, Gortreevagh, Oughterard, Co. Galway he is just 12 months of age.   With 5 stars in both indexes he is by Fiston and out of a Doonally New bred dam and was purchased by Dan Melody, Bunratty, Co. Clare.

Also selling at €4,500 was another Galway breeder, Francis Ryan-Fahy, Rosscahill, Co. Galway.  Landleague Just The Job is by Pirate and out of a Doonally New bred dam.  Again with 5 stars in both indexes he was purchased by Patrick Donnelly, Collinbrone, Ballygawley, Co. Tyrone.

Christy Comerford, Knockmahon, Castlewarren, Co. Kilkenny (runner up in last year’s suckler herds’ competition received €4,300 for his first prize winner Knockmahon Lord.  By Inverlochy Ferdie and out of a home bred dam by a stock bull Adamstown Hubert he was purchased by Evelyn Rodgers, Manorcunningham, Co. Donegal.

€3,400 was recived by Gerry Walsh, Church Road, Ballina for a Goldstar Echo son

3,350 was recived by Gerard Gough, Fairfield Lr., Crossmolina, Co. Mayo for a son of Balthazar

€3,250 to Brian Mathews, Quarrymount House, Killeagh, Tullamore for a son of Vosigen

€3,200 to Kieran McLaughlin, Ture, Muff, Co. Donegal for a son of Alwent Goldbar

 

Three bulls were exported to Northern Ireland

RESERVE CHAMPION – GRANGWOOD LIMERICK. SOLD FOR €5,150

FIRST PRIZE WINNER – WESTERN LORETTO 2. SOLD FOR €4,500
