Irish bred Kilbline 1 Instigator crowned champion at RHS

Kilbline 1 Instigator clinched the overall Charolais champion at yesterday’s Royal Highland Show in Edinburgh for the Inverlochy herd owned by John and Raymond Irvine. The three year old son of Oscar was bred in County Kilkenny by the Sugrue family. At the same venue last year Instigator took home the overall male championship for the Irvine’s.

Instigator’s victory has capped of a wonderful two month period for Irish breeders and their genetics. Just over a month ago Will Shortt from County Tyrone was awarded the supreme champion Charolais at Balmoral with Woodpark Lottie. This young heifer was sired by the Irish bred, Deeside Gulliver, a bull bred by the Mc Cabe family from Ardee, Co. Louth.

Standing next to Lottie in Balmoral was the reserve overall champion, Gretnahouse Lord exhibited by the Feeney brothers from Enniscrone, Co. Sligo. The Bostonia stock bull is now destined for the National Charolais Show in Tullamore on Sunday the 13th of August.

Just a few week’s prior to Balmoral, McCaldrick McIntoish, a son of the Irish born, Aghafad Hope, claimed the supreme, male and junior champion at Carlisle. Bred and exhibited by Sean and Martina O’Kane from Dunloy, Co Antrim, McIntoish went on to top the sale at 12,000gns, selling to Highfields Park Farm, Hartfield, East Sussex. His dam Hope was bred by County Monaghan breeder, Edward Walshe before being purchased by the O’Kane’s.
