CHRISTMAS MESSAGE FROM THE SOCIETY PRESIDENT

Dear members,

Again, we find ourselves in the twilight of a year we have wanted to end since mid March and the hardships bestowed upon us by Covid -19. For our Society and for Charolais as a breed, it has been an exceptional year. Truly a year when amidst all the confusion and turmoil, Charolais simply pulled away and out-sold every other breed on every stage possible.

Demolishing our competitors in the commercial marts and the pedigree sales alike became the norm. And that’s exactly where Charolais should be and should stay. Our Autumn sales were a real ray of sunshine yielding high clearance rates and higher averages than last year. When we consider that the average at our Christmas Cracker sale was up by 12% year on year, it is a remarkable achievement. Remarkable but justified.

The absence of shows during 2020 necessitated a shift in marketing by the Society to make the best use of platforms like Facebook to promote our breed. That onus falls on our Secretary, Nevan, who deserves credit for the success of that. It would be remiss of me not to thank our council members for their work and input during the year. The groundwork laid over the last year or so has made it possible to introduce some new bloodlines to our membership. That will continue.

I also want to thank the staff of ICCS for their continued dedication and hard work. Lastly, I want to wish you all a very healthy and happy Christmas and with some luck, a bright and prosperous 2021.

Sláinte mhaith daoibh go léir.

Noel Mc Goldrick,

Society President.
