Summer Shows Round Up

Ballinamore Show

Champion – Dalehill Macbeth exhibited by Basil Kells from Killeshandra, Co. Cavan. Born October 2016 and sired by Cavelands Fenian. Macbeth went on to take the Champion Charolais at Mohill Show the following weekend.

Reserve Champion – Sunnaghmore Mogadore exhibited by Andy Mc Govern from Cloone, Co. Leitrim. Born February 2016 and sired by Bowerhouse Topper.

Virginia Show

Champion – Culla Molly exhibited by John and Paul Kingham from Culloville, Co. Monaghan. Born September 2016 and sired by Fury Action.

Reserve Champion – Cassina Nelson exhibited by Martin Clyne from Edgeworthstown, Co. Longford. Born January 2017 and sired by Mandela Veron.

Iverk Show

Champion Charolais and Interbreed Champion – Goldstar Elle exhibited by Martin Ryan from Cabra, Thurles, Co. Tipperaray. Elle was also Champion Charolais at Dualla Show the following weekend.

Moate Show

Champion – Lisnagre Nero ET exhibited by Jim Geoghegan from Streamstown, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath. Born January 2017 and sired by Jupiter.

Reserve Champion – Brocca Matchmaker ET exhibited by John Barry Moran from Moate, Co. Westmeath. Born November 2016 and sired by Major.

Inniscarra Show

Champion – The-Island Free exhibited by Michael Daly from Blarney, Co. Cork. Born in September 2010, this cow is a daughter of Burradon Talisman. Also in the picture above is the Minister for Agriculture, Michael Creed.

Bantry Show

Champion – Colomane Mr Right ET exhibited by John Ward from Bantry, Co. Cork. Born in December 2016 and sired by Alwent Goldbar ET.

Elphin Show

Champion Charolais and Interbreed Champion – Crossane 4 Muhammad Ali exhibited by the Mc Govern brothers from Fivemilebourne, Co. Sligo. Born in June 2016 and sired by CF 52.

Reserve Champion – Crossmolina Linda ET exhibited by Alan Wood from Crossmolina, Co. Mayo. Born in September 2015 and sired by Harestone Hurcules.

Ballinrobe Show

Champion Charolais and Interbreed Champion – Crossane 4 Napoleon exhibited by the Mc Govern brothers from Fivemilebourne, Co. Sligo. Born in January 2017 and sired by Prime Roberto. Napoleon was also Champion Charolais at Enniscrone Show the previous week.

Summer Shows Round Up

It has been a hectic couple of week’s on the show circuit with the National Charolais Show wrapped up for another year. The Donegal Charolais Club held their annual Calf Championships in Clonmany Show in County Donegal which produced a fantastic show of Charolais as always. Breeders flocked from all corners of Donegal to compete for the coveted title. Judge David Connolly found his Calf Champion and Overall Charolais Champion in the form of Roughan Madilin, exhibited by Pat Mc Clean from Newtowncunningham, Lifford, Co. Donegal. Madilin is an October 2016 born daughter of the home bred sire, Roughan Dix De Coe.

Standing reserve to the much fancied Madilin was Kilbline 1 Jolene ET exhibited by Patrick and Gerard Mc Laughlin from Malin, County Donegal. This January 2014 born daughter of Hutch was purchased at the Christmas Cracker show and sale in December 2016 from the Sugrue family in County Kilkenny.

In Swinford Show in County Mayo, Ardabrone Molly ET continued her winning streak for breeder, Karl Kelly from County Sligo. The October 2016 born Molly who is a daughter of Inverlochy Ferdie has picked up rosettes at Bonniconlon and Grange shows already this Summer.

Further east in Tydavnet Show, County Monaghan, the Hughes family from Cootehill in County Cavan enjoyed a successful outing. They picked up three first prize rosettes, Overall Champion Charolais and Reserve Interbreed Champion of the show. Clinching the Overall Charolais and Reserve Interbreed Championship was their June 2016 born son of CF 52, Pottlereagh Martin ET.

Championship honors in Tullow Show, County Carlow went to Martin Ryan and family from Thurles, Co. Tipperary. Doing the business for the Ryan family on this occasion was Goldstar Falkland accompanied by her October 2016 born bull calf, Goldstar Magician. The french bred Falkland was fresh after her outing to the National Charolais Show in Tullamore where she won her class.

Cappamore Show in County Limerick always produces a top quality show of Charolais cattle and once again it did not disappoint. Taking the Overall Champion here was the October 2016 born Sheehills Majestic ET exhibited by John Searson from Roscrea, County Tipperary. Majestic was following on from his appearance at the National Charolais Show in Tullamore where he placed second in an exceptional class of Charolais bulls. In reserve was Michael Quin and family from Newmarket on Fergus, County Clare with their September 2016 born daughter of CF 52, Clenagh Mollie ET.

Round up from a action packed weekend of Charolais shows

Charolais breeders from all parts of Ireland attended numerous summer shows over the bank holiday weekend, producing some wonderful display’s of Charolais cattle in many parts of the country. The first show of the weekend was Grange in County Sligo. Coming out on top here was Liscally Magic ET exhibited by Jon Regan from County Leitrim. This September 2016 born son of Balmyle Vagabond is enjoying a successful run on the show circuit in the north west this year.

Standing reserve to the Leitrim bred bull was Ardabrone Molly ET exhibited by new breeder, Karl Kelly from County Sligo. Molly is an October 2016 born daughter of the Dovea AI sire, Inverlochy Ferdie. The attractive Ferdie daughter would continue her winning form over the course of the weekend, as she went on to take home the reserve Charolais championship in Bonniconlon show on Monday.

Pipping the fore mentioned Molly to the championship in Bonniconlon was the January 2017 born bull calf, Crossane 4 Napoleon. This much fancied son of Prime Roberto was exhibited by the Mc Govern family from Fivemilebourne, Co. Leitrim. The young bull had previously notched up red rosettes at Riverstown and Grange shows.

Not too far away in County Leitrim, Cloone show enjoyed a competitive show of Charolais cattle as always. Dalehill Macbeth from County Cavan breeder, Basil Kells was tapped out as overall Charolais champion by Judge, Drew Mc Murray. This October 2016 born bull is a son of the noted NCBC sire, Cavelands Fenian. In reserve was Gallaway Maverick exhibited by Michael Kiernan from Carrigallen, Co. Leitrim. The CF 52 son was following on from his success in Arva show the previous week, where he was awarded the reserve champion Charolais.

Meanwhile down South, Martin Ryan and family from Thurles, Co. Tipperary were flying the flag high for Charolais as they clinched the Charolais championship and overall Interbreed champion of the show in Tinahely. This time it was Goldstar Falkland who lead the way for the Goldstar herd, accompanied by her autumn born bull calf, Goldstar Magician. Standing reserve to Falkland in Tinahely was another member of the Goldstar team, Goldstar Maradona ET. This September 2016 born bull is a son of Texan gie and the prolific show cow, Goldstar Adorable.
