TULLAMORE AIB LIVESTOCK SHOW 2015 – PART 1 11/08/2015
A large (the biggest beef breed at the show) and quality entry of 165 Charolais catalogued produced an outstanding Overall Champion in the shape of GOLDSTAR ELLE from the Ryan Family, Copperfield House, Cabra, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.   Elle a six year old cow by the French bull ‘Caramel’ was shown with her May born bull calf at foot.

The biggest exhibitors in the Charolais section of the show the Ryan family also won red rosettes for their young heifer GOLDSTAR JAVANAISE by T-Urambo and for their senior pairs of overall champion Goldstar Elle and 2nd prize winner Goldstar Adorable.   Not stopping there they also took home two 2nd and two 3rd prize rosettes.

Continuing a fantastic showing summer BALLYBROWN HOLLY took the Reserve Female Championship for Bobby O’Connell, Ballybrown, Clarina, Co. Limerick.   By ‘Bobino’ she has received the Charolais championship sash at numerous shows this summer.

Male championship and reserve overall went to Jim Geoghegan, Lisnagre, Streamstown, Mullingar for his much admired young bull LISNAGRE JASPER.  Just 11 months of age he is by the popular easy calving bull ‘Pirate’.  Jim received a second red rosette in the Nov/Jan born class for his young heifer LISNAGRE JULES by Indurain.

Reserve Male championship went to WILLIAMSTOWN JOEL, a second prize winner from the same class as the champion.   Bred by Aidan Farrell, Williamstown, Moate, Co. Westmeath he is by ‘Major’.     A full brother WILLIAMSTOWN JONATHAN was placed third in the same class.

Following on from her top placings at the 2013 and 2014 National Charolais shows , the Tullamore/AIB National Heifer of the year championship was awarded to BALLYDAVIS INCREDIBLE bred by Kathleen & Michael Hargroves, Ballydavis, Portlaoise.     Born January 2013, this rising three year old heifer is by Fury Action.

A really feminine young heifer was how Judge Andrew Hornall described his first prize winner of the Sept/October born heifer class MOUNTGABLE JENNA.   Bred by Andrew Holleran from Carrowkeel, Clonbur, Co. Galway on his second only outing to Tullamore she is by Meillard.

Standing second in the same class was Claregal Jodi by ‘Major’ from another young Co. Galway breeder Jarleth Tracy, Claretuam, Tuam.

Not stopping there a third County Galway breeder John O’Grady, Creggane, Glenamaddy won the baby heifer class with GLENREE LEXIE.   John’s heifer, born on 19th January is by Cottage Devon.

In the male section first prize in the senior class went to the Sugrue Family, Kilbline, Bennettsbridge for KILBLINE JESSIE PINKMAN.   Born March 2014 he is by Oscar and was also a first prize winner at the 2014 National Show.

In the Nov/Jan born class the red rosette went to Harry Noble, Kilcoursey House, Edgeworthstown for NOBLE JOHNTY.   A powerful young bull he is by Goldstar Echo.

Standing second in the class was another son of Goldstar Echo BAURNFEA JUPITER bred by Johnny Bambrick, Castlewarren, Co. Kilkenny.

They junior bull calf class was won by Declan Dockery, Ballymalee, Letterkenny, Co. Donegal for January born DINSDALE LOCHIE by Doonally New.    Declan also had a first prize winner at the 2014 show with a young heifer calf out of the same dam ‘Dimsdale Fleurdemai’.

Top spot in the Junior Pairs Class went to Aidan Farrell Williamstown, Moate with second place going to his neighbour Jim Geoghegan, Streamstown, Mullingar.  Standing in third spot was a pairing from the Ryan Family, Cabra, Thurles.

In the senior section (pairs over 12 months of age) top placing and reserve went to the Ryan family from Thurles with the young McGovern brothers in third place.

Judging, in front of a huge ringside crowd who were thankful that the rain stayed away, Andrew Hornall from the noted Falleninch Charolais Herd based in Stirling, Scotland was highly complimentary about the standard and big number of cattle forward at the show.

The Charolais National Heifer and Calf Championships take place in

Goldenvale Mart, Tullamore on Sunday, 13th September. 

  Closing date is this week-end.

   It promises to be a great day for all interested in Charolais breeding.
