Pottlereagh Martin is champion in strong show of Charolais at Arva

Pottlereagh Martin – Champion Charolais and reserve interbreed champion in Arva

The Hughes family from Cootehill, County Cavan landed the overall champion Charolais and reserve interbreed champion of the show in Arva at the weekend with Pottlereagh Martin. The June 2016 born son of CF 52 fought of a strong line up of promising young calves to claim the top accolade in the Charolais section, before being awarded the reserve interbreed champion of the show.

Gallaway Mavrick – Reserve champion Charolais in Arva

In reserve was the August 2016 born, Gallaway Mavrick exhibited by Michael Kiernan from Carrigallen, County Leitrim. Once again this stylish young bull is a son of the one and only, CF 52.

Charolais X heifers stand top of the line in commercial show rings

It has been a successful couple of week’s for Charolais cattle in the summer shows. The outstanding Charolais cross heifer owned by Shane Giltinane from Croagh, Co. Limerick took home the commercial and interbreed champion at Newcastle West, before picking up the commercial champion and reserve interbreed champion at Ennis show. Roy and Clive Stevenson’s Charolais cross heifer continued her winning streak in Oldcastle show as she was crowned overall commercial champion.

Killawalla Caprice – Champion Charolais at Erris show 

In the pedigree ring, Killawalla Caprice exhibited by Jarleth Mc Hugh from County Mayo landed the overall champion in a strong show of Charolais at Erris. The CF 52 daughter was shown accompanied by her November 2016 born bull calf by Oldstone Egbert.

Sagesse Martha ET – Reserve champion Charolais in Erris show

The September 2016 born Sagesse Martha ET stood reserve champion following her success at Riverstown the previous week. The Adonis daughter is owned by Father and son, Brendan and Niall Canning from Rosses Point, County Sligo.

Sheehills Majestic ET – Interbreed calf champion at Ossory show

Champion Charolais in Ossory show, County Laois went to Goldstar Falkland and her bull calf by Texan gie from the Ryan family, Thurles, Co. Tipperary. The rising seven year old is a daughter of the french sire, Valseur. Falkland took over the championship reigns from her compatriots, Goldstar Haidi and Adorable who have been on winning form for the Ryan family already this year. Sheehills Majestic ET then rounded of a brilliant day for the Charolais breed and John Searson from Roscrea, Co. Tipperary, as he was awarded the interbreed calf championship. The September 2016 born bull calf who is a son of CF 52, had earlier won a powerful class of autumn born Charolais bulls in Ossory.

Quality Turnout At North West Charolais Calf Championship

Despite the harsh weather conditions, almost 50 Charolais cattle turned out at Inishowen agricultural show over the weekend. Judge for the day, Mr. Will Shortt of the Woodpark pedigree Charolais herd described the cattle in front of him as “as good as you would see anywhere”.

Roughan Louis 2 – Champion at Inishowen 

Local breeder Tommy Mc Laughlin took home the overall Charolais champion with his June 2015 born stock bull, Roughan Louis 2. The impressive two year old was later selected as the best bull of the show. Sired by Roughan Echo 2 and out of a Roughan bred dam by Roughan Divin, Louis 2 was purchased privately by Mr. Mc Laughlin for his Islandview herd earlier this spring.

Bostonia Joy ET – Reserve champion at Inishowen

Reserve champion & senior female champion went to Bostonia Joy Et, a August 2014 born daughter of Elgin Davinci from a Major bred dam. Exhibited by the Feeney brother’s from County Sligo, Joy is no stranger to the show ring having picked up a string of red tickets and championships as a heifer. She was shown accompanied by her Pirate bred bull calf at foot.

Liscally Magic ET – North West Charolais Calf Champion 

In the hotly anticipated north west Charolais calf championship, it was Liscally Magic ET bred by Jon & Lewis Regan from County Leitrim who came out on top. This September 2016 born son of Balmyle Vagabond and a home bred Padirac dam was tapped out as champion by Mr. Shortt after standing top of the line in a strong senior male calf class. In reserve was Pat Mc Clean’s October 2016 born heifer calf, Roughan Madilin by his home bred stock bull, Roughan Dix De Coe and a home bred dam by Roughan Fleming.

To cap of a great day for Charolais, it was the Fury action bred Charolais X heifer owned by Roy & Clive Stevenson who claimed the overall commercial champion.

Sagesse Martha ET – Champion in Riverstown

Meanwhile in County Sligo, Father and son duo, Brendan and Niall Canning had a productive day at Riverstown show. Hitting the headlines and securing the champion Charolais for the Rosses Point men was their September 2016 born heifer, Sagesse Martha ET, a french bred daughter of  Adonis and Contesse.
