The Irish Charolais Cattle Society have selected Shane Maguire as the winner of the Irish Pedigree Cattle Breeders Council’s All-Star Award for 2024 for his bull Dundoire Victorious.
Shane lives in Kilbride in Co. Meath with his partner Shannon and three young boys and joined the Society in February 2021. He was elected to the Charolais Council in March last year on his first time running and is a son of Kevin Maguire who himself is a former President of our Society.
Shane has bred a number of top-class animals since he joined the Society, but his most prestigious bull, Dundoire Victorious, lived up to his name in the shows ring throughout the country. Born on the 14th February 2024, this superb bull calf was hard to beat in the show ring in 2024. Sired by Grangwood Royal Oak (et) and out of Aquanchoua Poppy (et), he has an impressive pedigree with Goldstar Echo, Major, Texan-Gie, Enfield Picasso, Doonally New, Dovea Pinocchio, Mogador and Meillard all in his back pedigree.
He won 11 red rosettes and 5 championships in 2024 …. including at the Society’s National Show in Tullamore where he was selected as the Reserve Junior Male Calf Champion of the Show, first place at the “Rising Stars” show in Ballyjamesduff, and he was the Athlone Show Champion and Virginia Agriculture Show Reserve Champion, just to name a few.
Victorious saved his best till last when he claimed the All-Ireland Male Calf Championship at the Society’s National Calf Show in Carrick-on-Shannon in September, in what was a hotly contested category.
He gained a lot of interest from overseas and indeed here in Ireland and he eventually went on to sell to a top pedigree herd in Northern Ireland, the Drumconnis Herd for an undisclosed five figure sum.
The awards ceremony took place last Saturday night in Portlaoise and the Society would like to congratulate Shane. He and Victorious are very worthy receivers of this award.
