NATIONAL CALF SHOW/SALE and ELITE HEIFER SHOW/SALE 2025 RESULTS

What an event we had at the National Calf Show & Sale and Elite Heifer Show & Sale last Saturday in Carrick-on-Shannon.  Huge attendance and RECORD average sale prices received …. The figures say it all.

Thank you to everyone who made this event the biggest Charolais event of the year and such a great success.

Elite Heifer Show/Sale Report:

 

Clenagh Thea (et)

Receiving the highest price at the sale was the first heifer into the ring, Clenagh Thea (et).  Bred by Michael Quinn from Newmarket-on-Fergus, Co. Clare, she sold to a Monaghan farmer for €8,200.  Sired by Whitecliffe James and out of a home bred cow Clenagh Classic with Blelack Digger and Doonally New in her back pedigree.  She sold In-calf to Pirate.

 

Grangwood U2

The second highest price of the sale went to the Champion of the sale, Grangwood U2 , bred by Jerry and Kay O’Keeffe from Knocklong, Co. Limerick.  Sired by the Society’s bull Infidele and out of a home bred dam Grangwood Rose Petal (et), she was born April 2023 and In-calf to Lapon.  She sold to a fellow Charolais breeder from Co. Donegal.

 

Two heifers sold for €7,000;

Sagesse Ulicia

First was for July 2023 born Sagesse Ulicia bred by Brendan Canning from Co. Sligo.  In-calf to Lapon, she was sired by the excellent Erudit and out of Sagesse Julieanne.  She sent to a fellow breeder from Ennistymon in Co. Clare.

Lisnamoyle Victoria

The next lot at €7,000 was Lisnamoyle Victoria.  Born March 2024, she was sired by Ocean and out of a home bred dam with Fiston in her back pedigree.  She was bred by Frank Garvey from Roundfort in Co. Mayo and found her new home in Co. Down.

 

Lisnamoyle Valerie

Frank was also the breeder of the Reserve Show Champion, Lisnamoyle Valerie.  Out of their own stock bull, Lisnamoyle Teddy she sold for €6,000 to another Northern purchaser from Co. Derry.  Frank’s third offering of the day, Lisnamoyle Vanessa, sired  by Mornity Nero and out of a home bred dam, was purchased for €4,200 by a Co. Cork breeder.

 

Carrowbeg Unique

The next highest price paid was €6,600 for Carrowbeg Unique.  Sired by Ashleigh Admiral and out of a home bred dam, she was born in April 2023 and bred by Kevin Graham from Boyle, Co. Roscommon.  She was sold In-calf to Lapon and headed to Co. Monaghan.

 

€5,600 was received for Clenagh2 Unicorn.  Born 1st February 2023 and In-calf to Orbi, she was bred by Barry Quinn from Newmarket-on-Fergus.  Sired by Society bull Vosgien and out of Clenagh Rihanna, she has Texan Gie and Grimaldi in her back pedigree.  She found her new home Mullingar, Co. Westmeath.

€5,400 for Rooskeynamona Unity 2.  Bred by Gerry Mulligan from Co. Leitrim.  Sired by Clenagh Lyle (et).

€5,200 for Clenagh2 Usabelle. Bred by Barry Quinn from Co. Clare.  Sired by Lapon.

€5,000 for Urlanbeg Uptowngirl.  Bred by Sean O’Connor from Co. Clare.  Sired by Goldstar Hugo2 (et).

Stats – Average price achieved at the Heifer Show/Sale was €5,085 with a clearance rate of 84%

 

National Calf Show/Sale Report:

€15,500 was the top price achieved for two lots – Larahill Violet (et) and Liscally Valerie (et).

 

Larahill Violet – Senior Female Champion

Shown by breeder John O’Connor and representatives from class sponsor Aurivo

Larahill Violet, to won the Senior Female Championship at the show is bred by John O’Connor from Mullingar, Co. Westmeath.  She was born 2nd August 2024 and is sired by the Society’s bull Neptune and out of Ballydownan Maggie (et) with the famous Ballydownan Simone (et) in her back pedigree.  She was sold to the UK.

 

Liscally Valerie (et) – Reserve Senior Female Champion

Liscally Valerie (et), who was the Reserve Senior Female Champion of the show was bred by Jon Regan from Castlegal, Co. Leitrim.  Born 9th September 2024, she was sired by the french bull Hatenon and out of home bred dam Liscally Iris 1 (et).  She was snapped up by the same UK purchaser as the Champion.

 

Rovanagh Violet Pearl – Intermediate Female Calf Champion

The next highest price at €15,000 was received for Rovanagh Violet Pearl, the Intermediate Female Champion of the show.  Bred by James & Noel McSweeney from Macroom in Co. Cork, she was born on 2nd December 2024 and sired by Noble Prince.  She is heading across the water to the same UK purchaser as the Senior and Reserve Female Champions.

 

Drumcullen Victorious – Reserve Senior Male Calf Champion

€9,500 was paid for Drumcullen Victorious, the Reserve Senior Male Calf Champion of the show.  Bred by John Fleury from Birr in Co. Offaly he is sired by Drumcullen Superman and out of home bred dam Drumcullen Penelope.  Born 2nd April 2024 he sold North to Co. Antrim.

 

Fieldview Vichy (et)

€8,400 was achieved for heifer Fieldview Vichy (et).  Bred by David Erskine from Co. Monaghan, she was born 1st September 2024 and sired by Magicien and out of home bred Fieldview Moselle with Ashleigh Admiral, Doonally New and Prime Roberto in her back pedigree.  She went North to a farm in Co. Down.

 

Lisnagre Vincent – Reserve Intermediate Male Champion 

Lisnagre Vincent (et) the Reserve Intermediate Male Champion of the show acheived €8,000 for breeder Jim Geoghegan from Co. Westmeath.  Born in October 2024 and sired by Domino, he was out of Lisnagre Mindy 2 (et).  He found his new home in Co. Antrim.

 

Noble Vogue

Noble Vogue received €7,400 from a Co. Fermanagh farmer.  Sired by Ocean and out of a home bred dam, she was born 24th July 2024 and bred by Harry Noble from Edgeworthstown, Co. Longford.

 

Tonyglasson Aladdin (et)

Tonyglasson Aladdin (et) owned by Martin Hughes from Cootehill, Co. Cavan achieved €7,200 from a fellow breeder in Co. Kilkenny.  Sired by Newhouse Bigal and out of Lisnagre Gabby (et), he has Major and Hermes in his back pedigree and carried 1 copy of the F94L gene.

 

Tubbernadur Vienna

€7,000 was achieved for Tubbernadur Vienna.  Bred by Kieran Doddy from Ballymote in Sligo, she is sired by Society’s bull Horace JD and out of home bred dam Tubbernadur Sansa (et).  She found her new home in Co. Antrim.

Tonyglasson Alfie – Junior Male Calf Champion

First being the the Junior Male Calf Champion of the show, Tonyglasson Alfie.  Bred by Martin Hughes from Cootehill, Co. Cavan, he is sired by Doonally New and out of Golfview Aoife.  He sold to a fellow breeder in Co. Mayo.

The second lot to receive €6,000 was Drumcullen Van Dyke.  Bred by John Fleury from Birr in Co. Offaly, he is sired by their stock bull Drumcullen Superman and out of a home bred dam Drumcullen Princess.  He sold to a farmer in Co. Donegal.

The winner of the Moocall Calving Senor raffle was Brandon Logan – We collected €715 and all proceeds are going to Pieta House in Tony Bosquette’s name.  Tony was a great supporter of our National Show and National Calf Show and local shows in the Carrick-on-Shannon/Strokestown/Mohill area over the years. Thank you to all who purchased tickets.
