Following on from their very successful premier sale Charolais breeders were well pleased with the trade at last Saturday’s show/sale in Tullamore which achieved a very good average of €3,369 and a 73% clearance. Price range was from €2,000 to €5,000.
Championship honours and top price of the day €5,000 was paid for TOOME HARRY bred by Patrick Delaney, Toome, Ballymahon, Co. Longford. By Limekiln Bosco (son of Doonally New) and out of a home bred dam by Prime Roberto he was purchased by Tomas Kerin, Abbey House Farm, Bellharbour, Co. Clare.
€4,100 secured the reserve champion BONNAVELLA HUMPHREY for Rosemary Murphy, Ballbinaby, Hackballscross, Dundalk, Co. Louth. Bred by Martin Killeen, Ballymakea Beg, Mullagh, Co. Clare he is by Prime Roberto and out of an Oscar bred dam. He has the top 5 star rating in the Terminal Index and 4 stars in the Replacement index. He is also in the top 5% of the breed for muscle (119) and his skeletal score of 140 puts him in the top 1% of the breed.
Also at €4,100 was Kilvilcorris Hermes bred by Matt & P.J. Ryan, Clonismullen, Drom, Borrisoleigh, Thurles. By Doonally New and out of a home bred dam by Royal Viscount he was purchased by Brian Blackmore, Rathaleek House, Kilkenny. He has 4 ½ stars in both the Terminal and Replacement indexes. The Ryans’ had 3 bulls at the sold and went home with a cheque for €11,100.
The third €4,100 of the sale went to Seamus Daly, Ballinlig, Rosemount, Moate for Rosemount Hulk. By Lisnagre Elite and out of an Enfield Hara Kiri bred dam he has 4½ stars in the Terminal index and was purchased by Michael Dunleavy, Ohill, Drumlish, Co. Longford.
€3,900 was paid for first prize winner Ballym Henry V by the imported stock bull Ballym Bouvreuil and out of Mandela Virginia by Excellent. Bred by Louise Quinn, Ballymoran House, Edenderry, Co. Offaly he was purchased by William Martin, Knockaboys, Ardee, Co. Louth.
€3,850 was received by Anthony McGovern, Gubbs, Cloone, Co. Leitrim for Brosna Important. He is by Oscar and was purchased by John Ryan, Ballydavis, Portlaoise.
€3,650 was paid for first prize winner Firoda Ivan br4ed by Seamus Nolan, Firoda, Castlecomer, Co. Kilkenny. By Bova Banker he is out of a home bred dam by Doonally New and was purchased by Patrick Flynn, Carrowmore, Loughrea, Co. Galway.
Four lots shared the €3,500 price tag:
First €3,500 was paid for Lisnagre Harvest bred by Jim Geoghegan, Lisnagre, Streamstown, Mullingar was purchased by Owen Cash, Inch, Blackwater, Enniscorthy. By Texan Gie he is out of Ballydownan Sexy by Hermes.
Next at the €3,500 price tag was Kilvilcorris Hotspur bred by Matt & P.J. Ryan, Clonismullen, Drom, Borrisoleigh, Thurles. By Doonally New and out of a home bred dam by Indurain he was purchased by Angus Woods,Ballinabarney, Co. Wicklow.
€3,500 was paid for another bull Kilvilcorris Hercules from the herd of Matt & P.J. Ryan, Clonismullen, Drom, Borrisoleigh, Thurles. By Blakestown Seigneur and out of a home bred dam by Doonally Nicefor he was purchased by local man Richard Scally, Ashlawn, Ballycommon, Tullamore.
The fourth €3,500 price tag was paid for Dolland Hamish bred by Kevin Molloy, Dolland House, Luttrellstown, Clonsilla, Dublin. By Utrillo Mic and out of a home bred dam by Maerdy Sinndar he was purchased by Michael Mulkerins, Bullaun, Loughrea, Co. Galway.
Next Charolais sale takes place in Athenry Mart on Thursday. There are four premiums on offer to the purchasers of the top 4 priced animals at the sale.
