Charolais breeders were well pleased with their autumn show/sale in Ennis with a clearance of 85% and a very good average of €2,990.
Top price of the sale, €4,600 went to Co. Galway breeder Bridie O’Connor, Grallagh, Brownsgrove, Tuam, Co. Galway for KILLOUGH IVON. He is by Tullygarley Alibaba (AI Code S741) and out of a Bova Sylvain bred dam. He was purchased by local man Frank Power, Fergus Manor, Ennis.
Champion and second highest price of the day €4,200 went to Gerry Lynch, Moymore, Tulla for KNOCKMOYLE IVANOFFE. By Utrillo Mic (AI Code URO) he is out of a Doonally New bred dam. A half-brother, (out of the same dam) is entered in the Christmas cracker sale in Elphin on 6th December. Purchaser is Kevin Keane, Sylane, Tuam, Co. Galway.
Reserve championship went to Martin Ryan, Copperfield House, Cabra, Thurles, Co. Tipperary for his young bull GOLDSTAR IRISHMAN. By Pirate and out of a Jupiter bred dam he was purchased for €4,000 by Martin Wall, Bruckley, Castlegar, Co. Galway.
Louise Quinn, Ballymoran House, Edenderry, Co. Offaly had a good outing to Ennis selling all three of her bulls on offer. She received €3,400 for first prize winner BALLYM INDIGO. By her imported stock bull Ballym Grivois and out of a home bred dam by another imported stock bull Ballym Bouvreuil he was purchased by Liam Nicholas, Alagha, Tulla, Co. Clare.
Her second sale offering BALLYM IMPECCABLE, also a firs prize winner sold for €3,350. By Enfield Hara Kiri he is out of a home bred dam that is also by the stock bull Ballym Bouvreuil. He was purchased by Patrick Nagle, Kilconnell, Liscannor, Co. Clare.
Her third bull BALLYM INDY sold for €2,500 to Seamus O’Grady, Larchill, Ennis. He is by the imported stock bull Ballym Grivois and out of another home bred dam by Ballym Bouvreuil.
John Joe Lynch, Moymore, Tulla, Co. Clare received €3,050 for his bull MOYMORE IDEAL. By Liscally Eti (A.I. Code LSP) and out of a home bred dam by Major he was purchased by Michael Kelly, Party, Claremorris, Co. Mayo.
Four lots shared the €3,000 price tag:
Joe Clancy, Gortreevagh, Oughterard, Co. Galway received the first €3,000 for WESTERN INCREDIBLE by the easy calving sire Noaille. He is out of a home bred dam by Doonally New. He was purchased by Arthur Collins, Ballyshanny Hse., Kilfenora, Co. Clare.
The second €3,000 went to Pat McClean, Roughan, Newtowncunningham, Co. Donegal for ROUGHAN IAN. By Pat’s imported stock bull Roughan Dix de Coe he is out of a home bred dam by Roughan Viceroi. Purchaser is Thomas Kilcooley, Baunreagh, Gort, Co. Galway.
The next €3,000 was received by Christy Morey, Ballysheen, Sixmilebridge, Co. Clare for 14 months old BALLYSHEEN IRONSIDE. By Lisnagre Elite (Ai Code Lgl) he is out of a Doonally New bred dam. He was purchased by James Cogavin, Suckfield, Ballinasloe, Co. Galway.
The fourth €3,000 of the day went to local breeder Pat O’Connor, Turlough, Bellharbour, Co. Clare for the second youngest bull in the sale KILLENACURRY IAN. By Pirate he is out of Calla Gardenia by Mulroog Viacom. He was purchased by Co. Mayo farmer Brendan Sweeny, Turloughmore, The Neale, Ballinrobe.
Price range for the bulls was from €2,000 to €4,400.
