Ballym U Prince
Whilst 95 bulls were catalogued for the Tullamore show/sale last Saturday, due to a number of home sales and a large double entry for the upcoming Christmas Cracker in Elphin Mart on the 30th November, this left 45 bulls on offer on the day, of which 30 sold. Top price of the day was €7,100 and the average price for the sale was €4,006, which is on par with the same sale last year. 13 animals sold with a price tag of €4,000 and over.
Topping the sales price was €7,100, paid for Ballym U Prince who was exhibited by Colm and Louise Quinn from Edenderry in Co. Offaly. Sired by their stock bull Ballym Romeo and with Clyth Diplomat and Oldstone Egbert in the dam’s back pedigree.
Judge on the day Mr. Gary Henderson from the Sandelford Charolais Herd in Bushmills, Co. Antrim made Liscally Uranium his Senior Champion. He sold for the next highest price of the sale at €6,200. Exhibited by Jon Regan from Co. Leitrim, he was born on the 16th April 2003 and was sired by the Society’s bull Ocean and out of a female by Doonally New. He catalogued with a five star terminal index of €147, a 4% calving difficulty and carried one copy of the F94L gene. He made his way North to his new home in Co. Antrim.
Liscally Uranium
Hot on the heels at €6,100 was the second prize winner from the second last class of the day, Limkiln Unite, exhibited by Co. Clare breeder Richard Hackett. This September 2023 bull another son of the Society’s bull Ocean and out of a home bred dam by Pirate. He catalogued with a five star terminal index and terminal value of €180.00. He went home to a purchaser in Robertstown, Co. Kildare.
Next was Inish Unrivaled, the second prize winner from class 7 who sold for €5,700 to a farmer from Kilmaine in Co. Mayo. Exhibited by Louis McGonagle from Lifford in Co. Donegal, this August 2023 born bull was sired by the Society’s bull Neptune and out of a female by Fiston. He carried 5 stars for Terminal index with one of the top terminal values of the sale at €183 and a 4.1% easy calving index.
The next highest price of the sale which was €5,200 was achieved for the Junior Champion of the show, Clenagh2 Urban, exhibited by Barry Quinn from Co. Clare. Also sired by the Society’s bull Ocean, he was out of home bred dam Clenagh Royalty with Goldstar Ludwig as the maternal grand-sire. He also carried 5 stars for Terminal index and a calving index of 4.6%. He found a new home in Co. Laois.

Selling for €5,000 was the Reserve Junior Champion Carrigwood Uiseann 2. Exhibited by Thomas Kilmartin from Co. Offaly he was sold to a breeder in Co. Limerick. Sired by Drumcullen Nevada 2 and with Whitecliffe James as the maternal grand-sire, he also had a 5 star terminal index at €167 and a calving difficulty of just 2.6% and carried one copy of the F94L gene.
Carrigwood Uiseann 2
Larahill Urban Cowboy (et) was awarded Reserve Senior Champion on the day. He sold with a price tag of €3,500 to a farmer in Ballinasloe, Co. Galway. Out of the Society’s bull Jupiter and with Doonally New as the maternal grand-sire. He was exhibited by John O’Connor from Mullingar in Co. Westmeath.
