Junior Champion – Achieved the highest price of €16,100
Customers were plentiful in the sales ring at Elphin on Saturday, with the top price of €16,100 achieved for Lahinch Vincent. 22 bulls sold for €6,000 and over with an average price of €5,928, up just over €900 from the same sale last year and a clearance rate of 75% achieved .
In the smaller female section, the Champion of the show, Crossane4 Victorious achieved €12,700. 6 females sold for €6,000 and over and the average price achieved for the females was €5,590, up over €1,190 from the same sale last year and a clearance rate on the females was just slightly under 60%.
In total 10 animals were exported to Northern Ireland and 1 to Scotland.
A great day was had by Ollie Connolly from Lahinch, Hollymount, Co. Mayo when his bull Lahinch Vincent, the Junior Champion of the Show and the Reserve Junior Male Champion at the Society’s National Calf Show last September, achieved the top price on the day of €16,100. Born 26th January 2024, he was sired by the Society’s semen Leopard (CH8502) and out of a home-bred dam Lahinch Roisin with Prime Roberto, Indurain and Oldstone Egbert in her back pedigree. He carried 1 copy of both the F94L and Q204X gene. Vincent went across the water and found his new home in Scotland.
The next highest priced bull was Maghermore Viking (et) bred by Michael Grant from Buncranna in Co. Donegal. Sired by Pirate and out of a home bred dam, he took the Reserve Junior Male championship on the day. He sold for €11,600 to a fellow Donegal breeder.

€10,800 was achieved for the Reserve Intermediate Champion of the show, Tullaghan Ultan. Bred by Michael Daly from Tullaghan in Co. Leitrim, he was sired by Ocean and his MSG is Doonally New. He sold to a farmer in Co. Fermanagh.

Firoda Valentino (et) achieved €10,000 for breeders Seamus & Brian Nolan from, Castlecomer in Co. Kilkenny. Placed first in his class by our judge Mr. James Nesbitt from Scotland, he is out of the Society’s bull Neptune and a home-bred dam with Doonally New, Hermes and Doonally Nicefor in his back pedigree. He carried two copies of the F94L gene and found his new home north of the border in Co. Tyrone.

Willie Flynn from Ballinasloe, Co. Galway received €9,600 for Tullyvillage Viking. Placed second in the pre-sale show, he’s sired by Fiston and out of a home-bred dam. He carried 1 copy of the Q204X gene and sold to a farmer in Co. Roscommon.

Ballina man Shane Tully sold his first prize winner from the pre-sale show MacMelvin Unique for €9,300. Born on 21st December 2023, he was sired by Lapon and out of a home bred dam, MacMelvin Sinead (et). He found his new home in Co. Antrim.

€8,600 was achieved for Rooskeynamona Uccello. Born 8th October 2023 and bred by Gerry Mulligan from Mohill in Co. Leitrim. Placed second in the pre-sale show, he was sired by Ocean and was a single carried of the F94L gene. He made his way to Oldcastle, Co. Meath.

Three bulls carried the price tag of €7,600.
First up was the Senior Champion of the show, Fieldview Upbeat. Owned by David Erskine from Crosses in Monaghan. Born 2nd November 2023 he was sired by Ashleigh Admiral and out of a home bred dam with Cavelands Fenian and Noaille in her back pedigree. He found his new home in Carrick-on-Shannon in Co. Leitrim.

The bull to receive the €7,600 was Dereskit Uranus 1188 for Basil Bothwell from Killeshandra in Co. Cavan. Sired by Ocean and out of a home-bred cow Dereskit Nakaela he was born on 1st November 2023 and travelled to the far south of the country to Co. Kerry to his new home.

The last bull making €7,600 was Fahan Ulick (et), owned by Patrick Doherty from Lifford in Co. Donegal. He carried 1 copy of both the F94L and Q204x gene and was sired by Pirate and had Ashleigh Admiral, Doonally New and Oscar in his dam’s pedigree. He went north to Co. Tyrone.

The next top price of the sale was achieved for Mullaghteelin Universe (et) who sold for €7,500. Owned by Sarah Curran from Stamullen, Co. Meath, he was sired by Domino and out of Goodmoove Sasha (et) who has Pirate, Meillard and Texan-Gie in her back pedigree. He sold to a farmer in Co. Mayo.

€7,400 was received by Gerry Mulligan from Mohill for his second offering of the day, Rooskeynamona Veron. Born 28th January 2024, he was sired by their stock bull Rooskeynamona Sublime and out of a dam with Texan-Gie and Doonally New in her back pedigree. He was a double carrier of the F94L gene and sold to a farmer in Drumconrath, Co. Meath

Jim Geoghegan from Mullingar in Co. Westmeath received €7,000 for Lisnagre Under Pin (et). Placed 3rd in his class at the pre-sale show, he was sired by Doonally New and out of Lisnagre Mindy 2 (et). He found his new home in Ennis, Co. Clare.

The Intermediate Champion of the show went to Finnview Uinseann (et) owned by Donal Gallagher from Lifford, Co. Donegal who went on to sell for €6,600. Born 27th November 2023 and sired by Doonally New and out of Ballylast Hazel, he found his new home in Co. Tyrone.

Cloughbrack Uruguay took the title of Reserve Senior Champion. Born 27th October 2023 and sired by Cloughbrack Naverone and out of a home-bred dam, owner Mattie Kelly from Ballinasloe, Co. Galway achieved the price tag of €6,000. He sold to a farmer in Co. Mayo.

The top price of €12,700 was achieved for the Champion female of the show, Crossane4 Victorious (et). Born on 23rd January 2024 and bred by the McGovern family from Fivemilebourne in Co. Leitrim, she was sired by Goldstar Echo and her dam was Portnason Hermione. She headed north of the border to Omagh in Co. Tyrone.

Next top price of €6,200 was reached for the first prize winner in her class at the pre-sale show, Bud U Little Beauty (et) owned by Olivia Purcell from Athboy in Co. Meath. In-Calf to Roughan Raoult, she was sired by Doonally New and out of the famous Western Icon. She was purchased by a farmer in Bailieborough, Co. Cavan.
Liscally Ubeauty 4 (et) was the next highest price at €5,500. Bred by Jon Regan from Castlegal in Co. Leitrim, Ubeauty 4 was born 23rd October 2023 and sired by Thrunton Bonjovi and out of a home-bred cow with Grimaldi, and Padirac in her back pedigree. She travels north to her new home in Co. Fermanagh.
Jon also recieved €5,500 for first prize winner in the pre-sale show Liscally Ubeauty (et). Sired by Balmyle Vagabond and out of a home bred dam, Liscally Rachel (et) and Doonally new as her MSG, she carried one copy of both the F94L and Q204X gene. She sold to a fellow breeder in Carrigallen, Co. Leitrim.

Richard Hackett from Clonlara in Co. Clare saw €5,500 for his offering, Limkiln Ursula. Born 8th April 2023 she was in-calf to Orbi and carried one copy of the F94L gene. She was sired by Lapon and out of the home-bred dam Limkiln Noreen 2. She found her new home in Scotstown, Co. Monaghan.
The Reserve Female Championship was awarded to Aghafad Victoria Emma. Born 1st January 2024 and bred by Edward Walsh from Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan. Sired by Orbi and out of a home-bred dam with Texan-Gie and Major in her back pedgiree, Victoria Emma went home with a fellow breeder from Co. Clare.
