Martin Hughes, David Erskine and Club Chairman Wesley Kellett receiving the Club of the Year Award for 2024 from Society President, Aiden MacHale
The Irish Charolais Cattle Society Club of the Year Award for 2024 was presented to the North Eastern Charolais Club at the Society’s Annual General Meeting last friday.
The Club have been very active in 2024 – In May they hosted their second annual “North Eastern Charolais Club Rising Star Calf Show” in Ballyjamesduff Mart. The idea of this calf show was to allow their club members to show their pedigree calves in a secure area, in order to halter train and get them familiar with being shown. They had a fantastic turnout. The Judge Alan Morrison from Northern Ireland judged 8 classes of calves. They also had a grooming demonstration for young handlers on the morning of the show.
In August the Club held its annual Club Calf Championships in Virginia Show and in October the club agreed to sponsor a local mart to promote the selling of Charolais crossbred weanlings in the North Eastern region.
They also held an information night in November at the Virginia Show Center for members, where they had guest speakers and a raffle of semen on the night.
In December they organised a Christmas dinner where the first prize winners from both the Calf Show in Ballyjamesduff and the Club Classes at Virginia Show were presented with special engraved plaques, along with a framed photo of their prize-winning animals.
The President Aiden MacHale thanked all members of the club for their hard work over the past year.
