ANOTHER GREAT CHAROLAIS SALE IN TULLAMORE MART LAST SATURDAY

Topping the sales ring was €8,200, which was achieved for the Senior Champion, Drumcullen Upright.

The average price achieved was €5,310 which is up €1,153 from the same sale last year.  10 animals sold for €6,000 and over and the sale had a 92% clearance rate with 3 animals heading over the border to Northern Ireland.

Senior Champion – Drumcullen Upright

The Senior Champion of the show went to Drumcullen Upright, bred by John Fleury from Birr in Co. Offaly.  Born 3rd December 2023, he was sired by Sportsman Neptune and out of a home bred dam, Drumcullen Naoise, with Barnsford Ferney, Balmyle Bollinger, Elgin Davinci and Vexour Granville all in his back pedigree.  He went north to a buyer in Co. Antrim.

 

Junior Champion – Glera V6 (et)

The next top price was paid the Junior Champion of the sale, Glera V6 (et).  Owned by Rory Cullen from Killoe in Co. Longford, he sold for €7,000.  Sired by Bourgogne and out of Glera Ikea, with Oldstone Egbert as the maternal grand sire, he also found his new home north of the border in Newry, Co. Down.

 

Reserve Junior Champion – Kilduff Ulric

Also reaching the selling price of €7,000 was the Reserve Junior Champion on the day, Kilduff Ulric.  Bred by Robert Dunne from Belturbet in Co. Cavan, he’s sired by Cavelands Fenian and out of a home bred dam Kilduff Rafi, with Clenagh Lyle (et), Naoille, Indurain, Domino and Blelack Digger in the back pedigree.  He sold to a farmer in Ennis, Co. Clare.

 

Two bulls sold with the price tag of €6,400;

The first was for the 1st prize winner in his class at the pre-sale show, Corney Ultra.  Bred by David Magee from Ballyconnell, Co. Cavan, he was sired by Fiston and out of a home bred dam, Corney Sky.  He carried one copy of the F94L gene and sold to a farmer in Co. Galway.

The next was the second prize winner in his class at the pre-sale show, Clonagh Virtual Reality (et).  Born in February 2024 and sired by Goldstar Echo he was bred by Garreth Behan, from Portlaoise, Co. Laois.   He sold to a farmer in Co. Laois.

Two bulls sold with a price tag of €6,200;

The first was Daisyhill Uncle Buck who won 1st prize at the pre-sale.  Bred by Brendan McFeely from Lifford in Co. Donegal, he carried one copy of the F94L gene and was sired by Ocean and out of  a home bred dam, Daisyhill Sophie.  He found his new home in Tydavnet, Co. Monaghan.

 

The second bull to sell at €6,200 was Noble Vavavoom.  Sired by Magicien and out of a home bred dam, Noble Nocturnal, he took 3rd prize in his class.  Bred by Harry Noble from Edgeworthstown, he sold to a farmer in Co. Roscommon.

 

The next top price paid was €6,100 for 2nd prize winner at the pre-sale show Ballyfinnan Victor.  Bred by Kenneth Clarke from Ardnacrusha, Co. Clare, this bull carried 1 copy of the F94L gene and was sired by Corban Rory, and a home bred dam with Goldstar Echo, Texan Gie, Enfield Picasso, Blelack Digger, Balthayock Adonis and Clyth Diplomat all in his back pedigree.

First up was Sliabhbloom U Cracker, bred by Danny Weston from Portlaoise in Co. Laois.  Born 3rd December 2023 and sired by the Society’s bull Vosgien (VVF), he was out of a home bred dam with Goldies Icon as the MGS.  He carried 1 copy of the F94L gene and sold to a farmer in Co. Galway

 

The next bull taking the €6,000 price tag was the Reserve Junior Champion of the Show, Ballyfinnane Val.  Born 17th March 2024, this young bull was sired by Corbaun Rory out of a home bred dam Ballyfinnane Roxanne.  Bred by Kenneth Clarke from Ardnacrusha, Co. Clare, he sold to a farmer in Portlaoise, Co. Laois.

€5,700 was achieved for Crossmolina Utah.  Bred by Alan Wood from Crossmolina, Co. Mayo and sired by Neptune.

€5,700 was achieved for Dereskit Victor 1198.  Bred by Basil Bothwell from Killeshandra, Co. Cavan and sired by Neptune.

€5,600 was achieved for Corney U.  Bred by David Magee from Ballyconnell, Co. Cavan and sired by Lapon.

€5,500 was achieved for Firoda Volvo.  Bred by Seamus & Brian Nolan from Castlecomer, Co. Kilkenny and sired by Magicien.

€5,400 was achieved for Kilvilcorris Ultiamate.  Bred by Matt & PJ Ryan from Thurles, Co. Tipperary and sired by Bunratty Mike Tyson.

€5,400 was achieved for Firoda Volcano.  Bred by Seamus & Brian Nolan from Castlecomer, Co. Kilkenny and sired by Doonally New.

€5,400 was achieved for Western Versace.  Bred by Joe Clancy from Oughterard, Co. Galway and sired by Fiston.

€5,300 was achieved for Cloonagh08 Varane.  Owned by Michael Kiernan from Carrigallen, Co. Leitrim and sired by Lapon.

€5,000 was achieved for Clonagh Visa Mastercard (et).  Bred by Garreth Behan from Portlaoise, Co. Laois and sired by Goldstar Echo.

 

Many thanks to our Judge on the day Mr. Sean McGovern from Clogher.  Sean is a renowned pedigree breeder and is no stranger to judging for the Society and who again did a great job on Saturday and also thanks to our shadow judge Veronica Moody from Co. Kildare who did a terrific job on the day.  She was matching Sean’s top three picks in all of the classes.
