Once again the recent National Winter Fair in Stranorlar, Ballybofey, Co. Donegal played host to an outstanding show of commercial cattle. The two day event attracted spectacular crowds from all over Ireland and abroad. In the sales ring Nick Freil from Glenswilly, Co. Donegal led the way in the charolais section when he sold his charolais cross bull calf which was under 325kgs for €5400. The calf was sired by the well-known Donnally New ‘CF 52’.
Other leading prices of charolais crosses in Monday’s sale included:
€3150 to D+L Mc Mahon Co Roscommmon for their bullock, he was sired by ‘CF 52’
€2980 to WM R Gubbins Co Limerick for their bullock
€2900 to David Wharton Co Offaly for his calf under 450kgs, he was sired by ‘CF 52’
€2800 to Tim O Donovan Co Cork for his calf under 500kgs, he was sire by ‘ECOLO’
In Sunday’s show Christopher Johnston from St. Johnston, Co. Donegal took the senior champion charolais with his charolais cross heifer. The heifer had earlier won her class for the best heifer showing 2 or more permanent teeth. Standing reserve to her was BE Williams bullock from Convoy, Co. Donegal. The bullock had earlier won its class for the best charolais cross bullock showing 2 or more permanent teeth.
In the calf section, Tim O Donovan from Co. Cork won the charolais championship with his charolais male calf under 500kgs. The calf was sired by ‘ECOLO’. Standing reserve was the Mc Closkey family Co. Donegal with their charolais calf under 500kgs. This calf was sired by ‘Liscally ETI’. |
