TOP PRICE OF €6,700 ACHIEVED TWICE AT TULLAMORE LAST SATURDAY

Junior Champion – Derryolam Urla.  

After a number of bulls sold at home and some being double entered into the upcoming Premier Sale in Elphin on the 22nd March, a much smaller of number of bulls were presented for sale in Tullamore last Saturday.

Two lots achieved the top price of €6,700 and 12 lots achieved over €5,000 with the average price being €4,710, up by €770 on the same sale the previous year and a clearance rate was 71%.

The Society has chosen not to publish the Eurostar indexes for our show/sales.  As our esteemed auctioneer Mr. Tom Cox announced to all present on the day “buy a bull that you like, that’s the bull you should buy ……. whether he’s a 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 star, buy a bull you like and at the end of the day your breeding will be right”.

 

The first bull to top the sales price at €6,700 was Ballydownan Unbelieveable (et).  Born in September 2023, he was sired by Doonally New and out of a home bred dam, Ballydownan Laura (et).  He sold to a farmer in Co. Wexford.

The next bull to make €6,700 was the Junior Champion of the Show Derryolam Urla.  Sired by Goldstar Echo and bred by Niall McNally from Castleblayney, he sold to a fellow breeder in Roscrea, Co. Tipperary.

€6,100 was the next highest price paid for Dalehill Usher.  Bred by Basil & Victoria Kells from Killeshandra in Co. Cavan, he was sired by Doonally New and his MGS was Major.  He found his new home north of the border in Co. Tyrone.

€6,000 was achieved by two lots:

First up was Tinnegarney Usher (et) owned by John & Michael McDonald from Bagenalstown in Co. Carlow.   Placed 2nd in the pre-sale show, he was born 2nd September 2023 and sired by Domino and out of a home bred dam, Tinneygarney Ottawa (et).  He was sold to a farmer in Enfield in Co. Meath.

The second lot to make €6,000 was Fermoyle Uboya, exhibited by William Scanlon from Westport in Co. Mayo.  Sired by Lapon he was a single carrier of the F94L gene.  He found his new home in Rathdowney, Co. Laois.

 

Selling at €5,700 was the Senior Champion of the show, Gallaway Urban.  Exhibited by Michael Kiernan from Carrigallen in Co. Leitrim, he sold North to Co. Down.  Born 15th September 2023 and sired by Noble Prince with Blelack Digger as his Maternal Grand-Sire.

€5,500 was paid for Ballym Universal belonging to Louise Quinn from Edenderry in Co. Offaly.  Sired by their stock bull Ballym Saloup, he had Magicien and Doonally Donald in his back pedigree. He sold to a farmer in Rochfortbridge, Co Westmeath.

 

Two lots reached the price of €5,300.

The first was Chanonstown Ur Magic who secured 3rd in the his class at the pre-sale show.  Bred by Michael Carey from Killucan, in Co. Westmeath, he was sired by Magicien and out of a home bred dam by Enfield Pleuxs.  He sold to a farmer in Co. Sligo.

Taking the second price of €5,300 was the shows Reserve Junior Champion, Sliabhbloom Unique.  Sired by the Society’s bull Vosgien and out of a home bred dam with Doonally New and Excellent in her pedigree, he went to the far south of the country to Killarney in Co. Kerry.

€5,200 was achieved for Killeenview Ulysses, sired by Ocean and out of a home bred cows by Private, he was placed 4th in the pre-sale show.  He was exhibited by Loracn Leonard from Ballina in Co. Mayo and sold to a farmer in Mullingar, Co. Westmeath.

 

€5,200 was also paid for Lot 29, Goldstar Ultrasonic (et).  Bred by Martin Ryan from Thurles in Co. Tipperary, and placed 4th in the pre-sale show.  He was sired by Jumper and found his new home in Co. Kilkenny.

 

Cloughbrack UFO bred by Mattie Kelly from Ballinasloe in Co. Galway achieved €5,000.  Sire by Chic and with Hideal and Utrillo Mic in his back pedigree, he sold to a farmer in Roscrea in Co. Tipperary.

 

Other prices on the day:

€4,750 achieved for Carrowbeg Umpire.  Bred by Kevin Graham from Co. Roscommon and sired by Corbaun Rory.

€4,700 was achieved for Fermoyle Unono.  Bred by William Scanlon from Co. Mayo and sired by Fiston.

€4,500 was achieved for Cloughbrack Ultravox.  Bred by Mattie Kelly from Co. Galway and sired by Chic.

€4,300 was achieved for Kilvilcorris Upton.  Bred by Matt & PJ Ryan from Co. Tipperary and sired by Vosgien.

€4,200 was achieved for Moheedian Ultimate.  Bred by Val Keane from Co. Roscommon and sired by Neptune.

 

We would like to thank our Judge on the day Mr. Andy Patterson.  Andy was a former stockman for Gilbert Crawford’s (Coolnaslee Herd) in Northern Ireland and had many a prize winner at shows in Northern Ireland and Sterling in his time.
